The I-O Stool is a furniture designed & manufactured in New Zealand by Pausma, it is lightweight and is distinguished by its clean lines and form.
The stool’s seating pan inclines for comfort, and a channel in the middle allows a leather pad to be added. Designed as an indoor-outdoor stool that suits many occasions, and can be flat packed for ease of shipping locally and internationally.
Aluminium extrusion and aluminium plate are the materials used. Techniques include cutting, drilling, sanding, bending, hydraulic pressing and welding. It is finished in a clear coat used on boats and space crafts, making the stool suitable for outdoors.
The stool designed by Christiaan Pausma is also manufactured in Auckland, New Zealand.
“The inspiration came to me after working for a furniture company that had pieces shipped to them from all over the world. A lot of the chairs etc. were shipped in large boxes taking up a lot of space in the containers, and I couldn’t understand why majority of today’s furniture is designed and shipped like this. It should be shipped taking up as little space as possible. Maybe over the years flat packed furniture hasn’t had the best name due to large retail chains producing pieces that are either hard to assemble or never looking as good as a non-flat packable piece. But I do think it’s highly important for companies who are shipping all over the world, and their needs to be a big improvement in this area.” Christiaan Pausma
