DIY Pen by Fraser Ross

Posted on September 12, 2011 by Themethodcase

The DIY pen is a flat packed object for mass production, investigating what forms can be created from flat sheet manufacturing and by the combination of two conflicting materials – Heat Shrink Rubber and Plywood. Most pens bought, borrowed or stolen are disassembled to see what’s inside…Could this continuous curiosity be conquered by starting with a pen already apart?

The project delivered over 100 prototypes from sketches to model making to find the closest solution. A Hairdryer is needed to shrink the rubber around the plywood skeleton. The design is flat pack for A6 (Postcard) envelop size. With custom colourings and printing available for the shrink rubber finish.
