New Handwriting Tools, workshop by Job Wouters / ECAL

Job Wouters aka Letman, well known for its lettering artworks, took out of his suitcase pencils and markers, as well as strange utensils much different than a typical pen and asked to his students to create, produce or divert objects from their original function to turn them into new handwriting tools.

Ephemera III – The destruction of physical typography by Bogidar Mascareñas

Ephemera III – “What has been accumulated will be exhausted” relies on the fact that the enormous amount of elements presented which will be burned. Out of the 4 different posters which made the serie of Ephemera, this one could not be finished. For the process, the designer made a template with the sentence to be placing the 800 incense cones. The result: Police thinking the house was burning!

Ephemera II – The destruction of physical typography by Bogidar Mascareñas

“What has been gathered will be dispersed” elaborates on the fact that should be formed by a countless element, so these will scatter. Using a laser-cut template with the aim of getting a thicker message, the phrase was destroyed to get by another color pigment and using a dryer for spreading.

Ephemera I – The destruction of physical typography by Bogidar Mascareñas

“What has been built up will collapse” is the first poster of the ephemera collection. In this case the message was made out of jelly, a casting process and the experimentation of the characteristics of the material. Thus, the process starts with the creation of the molds that later on were filled with the jelly and solidified at low temperatures. Finally, the goal of the poster arrived once was exposed: Due to the temperature (20º) the material melt and the poster collapsed.
