Graft by Qiyun Deng

Graft is a set of disposable tableware made of biodegradable plastic PLA referencing its sources materials – the plants. By giving both visual and haptic sensation, the project aims to raise environmental awareness towards disposable products.
The process began with the decision to use plant skin as textural medium. Deng picked vegetables and fruits with special tactile features and pair them with different utensils. The selected textures were carefully copied with resin as to interface with artificial parts, which were 3d printed corresponding to their shape and size. The gradient color in prototypes were casted using a technique like bi-color injection by pouring colored resins from two ends of the mould, carefully controlling proportion and mixture.
