Meeting a Lot, Meeting a Little. Gonçalo Campos for Kvadrat Divina
Published on July 24, 2015
Meeting roofs, a project comissioned by Kvadrat, proposes a new look into personal space, the notion of shelter, and the idea of a meeting.
As a reference to what happens in any international design events, Meeting a Lot, and Meeting a Little (or meeting roofs) represent the encounters taking place during this events. Casual and chance meetings, or planned and scheduled discussions, always referencing products, and an industry fulled by creativity.
As such, these structures refer to yet another product, an umbrella, typically a sort of collapsable and portable roof, used for protection, that in this case shelters the meeting parties from passerbyers under a cosy and minimal roof stretched out over their heads.
Divina by Kvadrat, is the perfect material for this project. Its warmth and smoothness of touch, as well as its vibrant colour, combine to produce an impressive sensorial delight. Divina creates the perfect atmosphere, demanding the attention of those on the outside, as well as providing comfort and isolation to those on the inside.
This was a project that took a lot of research from trying to find the right shape for the canopies, to making sure that these shapes could actually work, opening and closing like an umbrella, and finally finding the right people to precisely build the structure and sew the fabric.
