Oliver Peoples Eyewear. Technological advances and the human touch

An optical company foremost, their distinctive eyewear designs are handcrafted of the finest materials, unrivaled in quality and available in limited quantities. The lack of discernible logo emphasizes the beauty of the frame and appeals to tastemakers wanting to make a statement without advertising it. The ultimate Oliver Peoples consumer is a confident intellectual with a progressive sense of fashion, who appreciates discoverability and quality without sacrificing expressive style. Discreet branding means remaining recognizable only to those ‘in the know.’ Oliver Peoples is the choice of many Hollywood elite, framing such famous faces as Reese Witherspoon, Robert Downey Jr. and Katie Holmes.
Remaining true to the sophisticated, intellectual aesthetic made iconic by the brand, custom acetate colors in an array of tortoise shell hues remain at the heart of the collection.
Each frame is meticulously handcrafted in a dedicated factory following a process that combines both technological advancements and the human touch. Throughout the production phases, the artisans who sculpt the material into the final product reference the original design drawing to ensure its integrity. Disregarding conventional processes, each step is carried out despite the length of time required. The end result is an authentic design with bespoke, handmade details that are distinctive and unique.
It takes many months to perfect the design drawing, requiring countless revisions and adjustments to a fraction of a millimeter in order to achieve the perfect balance and fit of the frame. Once the design is finished, the prototyping phase begins in a studio where craftsman carve the raw materials to create three-dimensional realizations of the designs. The handcrafted process is an essential step as an opportunity to make any adjustments before the industrialization process begins.
Headquartered in West Hollywood, California, Oliver Peoples Inc. was co-founded in 1986 by eyewear visionary and designer Larry Leight. Oliver Peoples services the most exclusive retail accounts in more than 60 countries worldwide and operates 8 boutiques located in New York (2), Los Angeles, Malibu, Costa Mesa, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago and Tokyo.
In addition to the Oliver Peoples brand, the company also retains the global rights to market and distribute Paul Smith Spectacles, launched in 1994. This collection includes prescription eyewear and sunglasses featuring the whimsical yet classic designs and attention to detail synonymous with Britain’s leading fashion designer, Sir Paul Smith. More recently, in 2005, the design house launched the Mosley Tribes brand, a street luxury brand inspired by remixed classics.
