Product designer Oscar Lhermitte with design studio Kudu are releasing the first topographically accurate lunar globe on Kickstarter. The project involves the use of the latest data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter combined with advanced electronic and mechanical engineering alongside careful craftsmanship in mold making.
The production techniques are primitive. Each object is handmade with plastics casted in sand molds. The objects present focus on simplicity and confront our views of modern civilization.
Panna Chair is made of polyurethane foam over a metal frame. In keeping with his study of materials, Tokujin chose fabric as the chair’s value-driven component. A fabric designed to be highly practical and functional is revisited and reinterpreted for its inherent poetry. Upholstery designed like a dress to be slipped on and pulled down over the body.
Gionata Gatto of Studio Atuppertu and Mike Thompson combined photoluminescent pigments with polyurethane to make “Trace”. The outdoor lamp series convert waste energy into visible light.
