16th Creative Marathon at ELISAVA

The Creative Marathon comes back to ELISAVA in its 16th edition burden with contents and activities. Like every year, it consists of a set of intensive workshops, where students in year 3 and 4 of Degree in Design and Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design will take part together. Mexico has a lot of tradition in making fabrics and that is why Moisés decide to travel to Oaxaca, there he met Felipe and José, they are two of four brothers that has the business of making fabrics since they were kids, he met them in their workshop in a lonely neighborhood.

When wicker is produced, craftsman has wove one by one manually along the mold. Kunikazu Hamanishi thought if we can create different kinds of molds, craftsman would be able to weave various shaped wickers.

NSEPS (Not So Expanded Polystyrene) – Silo Studio

They invented a new manufacturing process that involves steaming polystyrene beads inside fabric moulds. They used the process, called NSEPS (Not So Expanded Polystyrene), to create this range of furniture. Steaming causes the beads to melt, expand and fuse together, distorting their moulds.

Material waste is something that effects all industries and leaves a lasting effect on the planet. This project is a collaboration with TED textile company and Chelsea College of Art and Design, students chose one or two TED principles to focus on – and come up with a new sustainable method for design using this principle.

Fabrica, a communication research centre

Fabrica is a communication research centre. It is based in Treviso, Italy, and is an integral part of the Benetton Group. Established in 1994, Fabrica offers young creative people from around the world a one-year study grant and provides opportunities for professional and creative growth, as well as a wealth of resources and relationships, as they develop social and cultural communication projects in the fields of design, visual communication, photography, interaction, video, music, and journalism.

Rocking-Knit is a new interpretation of the rocking chair. It offers its user productive moments of relaxation.
The to-and-fro movement of this armchair knits hats for the winter and requires no exertion whatsoever.
