Drawing Machine by Evan Holm
Published on January 30, 2013
A repurposed and reconstructed piano creates ink drawings onto a moving scroll of rice paper that circumnavigates the gallery space. He created this machine with the intention of inviting his audience of viewers into the process of art making. At the opening, participants could freely walk up to the keyboard and collaborate with each other to create unique drawings in real time. The sections of scroll were torn off at the end of the loop and given freely to people who wanted to take their drawing home with them.
Materials: salvaged grand piano, motors, brushes, wood, paper and ink.
